24-Hour and 40-Hour HAZWOPER in Florida

There are two main training courses that people working with hazardous situations and substances must have. The difference between the two courses and which one is needed will depend on your exposure level to those hazardous situations. Those who have limited exposure to those hazardous materials will want the 24-hour HAZWOPER course, while those who work with hazardous waste and emergency response operations will need the 40-hour HAZWOPER course.

There are 5 groups that these standards apply to for the 40-hour training course:

  • Cleanup operations required by a governmental body involving hazardous substances conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites
  • Corrective actions involving cleanup at sites covered by the RCRA
  • Operations involving hazardous waste conducted at treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facilities regulated under RCRA
  • Operations generating hazardous waste but are not TSD facilities

Emergency response operations involving the release of, or substantial threats of release, of hazardous substances

8-Hour HAZWOPER and HAZWOPER Refresher in Florida

For both the 24-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER courses, these certifications only last for 12 months. Because of the nature of the situations that you will encounter with these certifications, safety measures and knowledge must always be at the forefront of actions taken.

This means that refresher courses are required to recertify yourself for HAZWOPER duties, and we offer the 8-hour HAZWOPER course for this refresher that allows for recertification. This course meets all of the requirements outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for eight hours of HAZWOPER annual refresher training for workers who remove waste and could potentially be exposed.

H2S Training and Certification in Florida

Hydrogen sulfide is a dangerous gas because it is colorless, extremely flammable, and has a distinct rotten eggs smell to it. There are several different situations where you would encounter significant amounts of hydrogen sulfide such as in the oil refining process as well as from decaying organic matter.

Because of the nature of the gas, those in situations where it is present must have H2S training. The course aligns with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.143 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.

Confined Space Training and Certification Online in Florida

There are many times when you may find yourself operating in a confined space, and it is important to understand just what a confined space means as well as the training for working in these spaces. According to the OSHA regulations, a confined space has the following characteristics:

  • Large enough and configured so an employee can bodily enter and perform assigned work
  • Limited or restricted means for entry and exit
  • Not designed for continuous employee occupancy

While this doesn’t seem necessary to have a training course, the truth is that there will be many times when things can go wrong and it is important to understand how to remove someone from these confined spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

For Emergency Response In An Unknown Or Potentially IDLH Atmosphere, What Is The Minimum Number Of People Required?

IDLH stands for Immediately Dangerous for Life or Health. When a situation exists where this is the case, the minimum number of people that should be dealing with things is four. Two people will be in the IDLH situation with the other 2 people standing by to rescue those working in the IDLH situation.

It is important that the HAZWOPER refresher course be taken within 12 months of the last certification/recertification. The need to repeat the full 24-hour or 40-hour training course must be determined based on the employee’s familiarity with safety and health procedures used on-site. This refresher course must be taken at the earliest possible option with a description of why the training was delayed as well as when the training will be completed.

Even though those workers are not directly involved with the cleanup activities, they are still required to have HAZWOPER training in order to protect themselves and to understand what is going on with the cleanup tasks. At a minimum the 24-hour HAZWOPER training will be required for these workers.
